Zoya - Frida (review)

Frida from the Zoya Fall 2012 Gloss Collection

New addition to my collection :D. This nail polish has a “jelly” gloss finish with a shade in a emerald green.

Size: 15ml
Collection: Gloss NYFW 2012 Collection
This product contains no added formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, toluene, formaldehyde resin or camphor (BIG 5 FREE).

First impression: I randomly picked this up in my local Trade Secrets store and I was attracted to this emerald green shade. I was a little hesitant to get it a first because it looked like it would be a very sheer polish and I’m not a fan of those (at the time I didm’t know it was a jelly polish lol). For those who don’t know, “jelly” polishes are polishes that are more of a coloured/tinted top coat great for layered nail art and gradients.

Application: The formula was pretty thin so I had to apply multiple coats before it became opaque. Pictured below is only 3 coats and as you can see the finish is very sheer and more of a top coat. Although it is a sheer polish, it is buildable, so if you apply about 6-7 coats you CAN get it to be more opaque but the drying time will be extremely long.

Conclusion: I think this polish would be a great as a coloured/tinted top coat over nail art but as a stand alone polish, it’s a no for me. I don’t use tinted top coats very much so I wouldn’t buy this again. The green colour is gorgeous but that’s about it for this one.

Frida nail polish and the rest of the Gloss collection can be purchased form the Zoya website or Nail Polish Canada Website (FREE shipping to Canada) for $10/bottle
