Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy – Review & Swatches

Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy in Showtime

Drugstore (mini) Haul! – Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy – A MUST SEE

Well hello there Nail Polish Lovers! I wanted to share these lovely finds I purchased from the drugstore the other day. I got: Pure Ice in Twisted, Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy in Showtime (430) + Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat, and Revlon in Extra Life ‘No Chip’ Top Coat.

THE REVIEW

I’m going to start with Pure Ice in Twisted. This polish is a mermaid-y aqua green shimmer/holo chrome polish that changes its hue depending on the lighting. In low light, the shimmer is more of a darker green, and in brighter lighting and daylight conditions, the hue is more of a yellow-green. Pictured below is 3 coats plus ‘No Chip’ Top Coat. The formula is very thin and applies very streaky with a standard brush size. Three coats or more of polish is needed to cover the nail. I did not find that this polish was true to the colour in the bottle (Upon application the colour was lighter) although it is still a very lovely shade!

Showtime (430) by Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy- NO CURING LAMP NEEDED:

Anyone who knows me knows I love shimmer polish, especially dark shades and when I saw this polish I HAD to get it. ‘Showtime’ is a deep purple gel polish packed with tons of shimmer. Though this is a gel polish, it does NOT require a curing lamp. Instead, pair it with the Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy ‘Diamond’ Top Coat to strengthen the polish and help it to last longer. Another great quality of the Gel Envy line, is the fact that the formula comes with built-in base coat, so no extra base coat is needed *Do a little dance for quicker drying time, haha*. Pictured below are two coats plus ‘Diamond’ Top Coat. The first coat of application goes on a bit goopy, streaky, and thin all at the same time lol but once you let that layer dry completely, the second coat goes on very smoothly. I did find however, that this polish does not dry quickly so I urge you to only use this polish if you have the time to sit and let it dry! Haha if you’re like me, then that is a challenge within itself but it is doable…ish! Do it for the polish :p.

THE VERDICT

Twisted by Pure Ice

As much as I love mermaid polish and shades, honestly, I didn’t really like this one. The formula was just too thin for me and even after 3 coats, the nail bed still shines through underneath. Also, the polish shows up very streaky upon each application and takes a while to dry. What I did love was the shimmer (of course :p).

For the Revlon ColorStay Gel Polish in Showtime, I. am. in. love. This polish gives me lifeeeee. As soon as I applied it to my nail, it was love at first sight. It has a gorgeous deep purple shimmer in every lighting situation and really compliments any skin tone. The only con I would say is that the formula is extremely thick. IMPORTANT: It is very necessary to apply two coats but you have to let the first coat dry completely or else you will end up wiping off the first coat completely. I’m not sure if this is typical with gel polish that don’t require curing lamps (as this is my first gel polish purchase), but it really is crutial to let each coat dry before adding the next.

As are most of the polish I use, Revlon ColourStay Gel Envy and Pure Ice polish are all Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, DBP, and Camphor FREE (5-FREE). Woot woot!

That’s it for this haul, but I can’t wait to share the next one with you guys! Bye for now *mwah*

Great review, appreciate the honesty! And I agree with you, the purple Revlon polish looks much higher quality. You could pass that off as a salon manicure IMO!
